by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail – Benjamin Franklin
5 steps to perfect your moving strategy.
When undertaking a huge project one of the keys to success is having a plan or strategy to get the task done to the best of your ability, within a set period of time with as little complications as possible.
This cannot be more true than for moving. A moving strategy is a must whether you have a large family or it’s just you. Moving home can be one of the most stressful things a person needs to do. With the way things are at the moment with the cost of living crisis keeping costs to a minimum is of the utmost importance.
These are five ways to perfect your moving strategy;
Get rid of stuff
The more you have to move the more stress there will be, the longer it will take and the more it will cost. we want to reduce all these things so getting rid of anything you don’t want or need can be a great help. Not only do you only have the most important things but you can sell of things you no longer need or love to get a bit of cash to help with the cost of moving or even to get some new pieces for the new place that you will love even more.
Sort movers early
Once you have a move-in date you can really start to create a timeline for when things need to get done by. Even small things like making sure all you eBay listings have ended and you have time to post out any items you’ve sold before everything gets packed up. Getting a moving service sorted early can ensure you get the date you want and the help you need. No matter how well thought out your moving strategy is, what makes the biggest difference on the day is having a friendly and reliable service to make the move as stress free and smooth as possible.
Plan for the other end
The last thing you want to have happen is once you’re finally done with all the stress of moving is arrive on the other side with a whole new set of issues to deal with. I think its very important while working on your moving strategy to think beyond the move itself. When you get there will the stairs need painting? will you have access to the internet or phone in your first few days? Is the garden a jungle?
Planning ahead in this area will make settling into your new home so much easier and enjoyable . Sort out all your utilities on the other side as well as small jobs that can be done before you get there like getting the garden cleared and making sure that the cat flap is installed.
Start packing right away
This is the fun part (in my opinion). Once you’ve gotten rid of all the things you no longer want, love or need its time to start packing your things up ready for the move. When I’m packing I’m usually planning in my mind where each item will go in the new house. You get to see all of your belonging and it’s a great the to look at everything you have and make sure you want to keep it and it will have a place in your new space.
If you start by packing the things you don’t reach for very often and work that was so that the last things to be packed are the items you use every day like phone chargers, the kettle and toiletries and the like.
Make the most of it
Moving house is stressful. sometimes its an absolute nightmare but it has to be done. You may as well try and make the most of it and make it a little more fun. I like to have packing parties and get friends round, have a drink and some food and chuck some music on while we make our way through some of the packing. If you prefer packing your own things you could always have a painting party on the other side and rope some friends into helping you paint before you move in.
For me one of the things I like to do when I’m moving is making meals out of the random items in my fridge and freezer. These food items will need to be eaten or donated before you move as the fridge will need to off for some time before moving it. I like to make meals for me and friends using only items that need to be used up. There are so many ways to make a big stressful project just a little more bearable but they work.
