At a time where a lot of people are trying to do their best for the environment and make small changes to start repairing the damage we have done to the earth and oceans, it’s so important to keep doing more and teach the next generation to live in a way that causes the least amount of harm possible.

Optics are so important when you want something to stick in someone’s mind, having a visual of something makes it undeniable. We hear about the plastic in the oceans and large bodies of water, various types of sealife getting caught in disgarded bags, bottles and plastic yokes but actually seeing it in a place we least expect it definitely has a big impact.

When people think and talk about the oceans its often how beautiful it is and that it’s home to some of the most amazing animals we share the world with but unfortunately it’s not as beautiful as it should be and that’s down to us. It’s estimated that 8 million tons of plastic enter our oceans each year yet when we see depictions of the oceans on the big screen they are free and clear of waste and pollution which sadly is just not the case. Oceans plastic free have created a campaign #reimaginingoceans that’s gives us a visual that we won’t soon forget. They have recreated famous Hollywood movie posters, doing away with the crystal clear perfect waters and showing a realistic representation of what you actually find in the oceans.
I especially love the reimagined Disney posters as it’s a subtle way of introducing pollution in the oceans to our children who want Nemo and The Little Mermaid to live in a clean safe home.

There are so many small things we can do to help and it’s crazy how many people just aren’t doing anything at all. An example of some things I have done that make a difference to our environment are so simple but some important, I use refillable bottles for my water, I have completely switched from disposable pads and tampons to period underwear and reusable/washable pads, taking a canvas bag to the supermarket… These things help a lot and they have not made my life any more difficult, In fact its easier and I’m saving money.
